Why I'm doing it
Most men I know are busy. Work, kids, the list that never ends. Plenty of us have coworkers, neighbors, and group texts, and still don't have many men we can actually talk to.
That gap has a cost. Research from Cigna and others has found that more than half of people in the US feel sometimes or always alone, and isolation carries health effects on par with smoking. Men with a solid circle of friends live longer and do better at home and at work.
I spent eight years in the Marine Corps. Some of the best conversations I've had with other men happened side by side, not across a table. Walking makes it easier to talk.
There's no theme and no one running a program. It's not religious and not political. Men of any age are welcome. Come once, come every week, or come when you can.
Three rules
- Be yourself.
- Respect confidentiality.
- No hate speech.
